AREN’T THE MATERIALS IN THIS BOOK COPYRIGHTED?
We Have a 9 MM Copyright
My Publisher: How can we publish these materials if they are copyrighted.
My Answer: Most of the articles and materials are obviously created by someone at sometime and I
suspect more than a few might be copyrighted.
Publisher: So tell me why we aren’t going to get sued?
My Answer: Many of the items were sent to me by various 3rd parties and have no obvious copyright
notification and it appears to the best of my knowledge that they exist in the public domain so the owner
had no apparent interest in marketing the information.
Publisher: My God look at the picture on the top of this page it is probably copyrighted by some company
and we will get sued.
Answer: Now just settle down and I’ll explain what a we call in Appalachia a 9 MM copyright. You see
the US Supreme Court ruled that if you change a copyrighted item by just 10% it become a new creation and we
have instance changed the item by 60%-so it is not copyrighted.
Publisher: So if I saw a table in half and glue my car door to it is an original?
Publisher: So can we or should be copyright this book?
Answer: Why bother someone else would simply hire and attorney and effect a 9 MM Copyright claiming the materials
are in the public domain.
