The State of Mississippi

On the first day of March one thousand eight hundred and fifty two, personally appeared before me, D. M.Shows, an acting Justice of the Peace within and for the County and State aforesaid, Herren Walters aged Sixty eight years, a resident of Jones County in the State of Mississippi who being duly sworn according to law declares that he is the identical Herren Walters who was a private in the Company Commanded by Captain Richard Appleberry in the thirty first regiment of Infantry Commanded by Maj. or Col. Decoat in the War with Great Britain that he was drafted in Collington District South Carolina about the first of June one thousand eight hundred and thirteen for the term of six months. That he with the Company aforesaid repaired to Charleston and from there the assignment went to States Point on James' Island and remained there for the defense of Charleston in actual service in said war for the term of six months or within a few days of the expiration of said term, and was sent home on account of the expiration of his term of service, and will appear by the muster-rolls of said Company, that, although mustered out of service, he has no written certificate of discharge, and has no recollection of having received one-if he received one, it is now lost.

He makes this declaration fro the purpose of obtaining the bounty land to which he may be entitled under the "act granting bounty land to certain officers and soldiers who have been engaged in the military service of the United States:,
