Balden Family History

Cannada, also known as C. C. or Canon, was a Pvt in the 23rd MO Vol Inf. during the Civil War. He is buried in an unmarked grave. I will be going through the process of getting my 3rd great grandfather a headstone from the Veteran's Administration. William and Emily's graves have not been located yet. William's father, Cannada Balden a CW vet (23rd MO Vol Inf) is in an unmarked grave at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dodge City, Ford Co., KS but the location of Louisa his wife is unknown.

John Samuel Balden's sister Sarah Elizabeth Balden-Hamilton was b. 23 Feb 1871 in Cherryvale, Montgomery Co., KS. Perhaps her mother died in childbirth? John and his sister Sarah Elizabeth spent much of their earrly years in KS. By 1880 the Barton Co., KS census shows John and Sarah living with their grand parents, Cannada and Louisa Wells Balden and no mention of their parents. John used to work for the railroad and his wife Maud used to cook for the rail crew and others.

For the past few years I have been in contact with Mark and the last time I saw Jeff was at my father's funeral years ago. It's hard to believe we are getting so old even though I still feel like a kid inside. When I was 16 I met my husband Gene who had just returned from Vietnam. He is a wonderful husband and father. These is a rather beautiful home on a half acre of land in one of the nicer part of Miami where the family lived for several years. The parents considered the costs of making additions to the house for the kids vs purchasing a newer home.

Sorry to be so suspicious but it is a necessary evil in this day and age. Yes, you described the old house very well. I understood the small pool was built for a kid who had polio? The rock backing also had the back of a toilet seat cemented into it!! And there was what we called a monkey cage close to it. Jackie Palmer, who lived across the s treet and was the realtor, was the source of the polio and money stories. The elevated area is not so elevated anymore but still serves as a vegetable garden most years. In the 70s it was a dog cemetery as you know how hard it is to dig a hole here!

My mom bought it from your dad and I bought it from her in 1986. Weve made a lot of renovations over the years but the bathroom and two bedrooms on the east side of the house havent changed much at all. Neither has the footprint with the exception of the carport at the west side. Are you at all curious about the kids who would have lived in the neighborhood? I know what is going on with a hand full of them.

Take care,Gayle

Father of Modern Florida and Miam
Henry Morrison Flagler (January 2, 1830 – May 20, 1913) was an American industrialist and a founder of Standard Oil, first based in Ohio. Bill Haast (December 30, 1910 – June 15, 2011[1]) was the director of the Miami Serpentarium Laboratories, a facility near Miami, Florida that produces snake venom for medical and research use.[2] Haast extracted venom from venomous snakes from the time he was a boy. From 1947 until 1984, he operated the Miami Serpentarium, a tourist attraction south of Miami, Florida, where he extracted venom from snakes in front of paying customers.[3]

Haast physically extracted venom from venomous snakes by holding them by the head and forcing them to strike a rubber membrane covering a vial. As a result of handling these snakes, Haast had been bitten 172 times by mid-2008,[4] all of which but the last few were validated by the Guinness Book of World Records "for surviving the most deadly snake bites", a distinction Haast disliked as he did not think being bitten was a goal to be attained or admired.

Coral Castle-Engineering Marvel
Coral Castle is an oolite limestone structure created by the Latvian American eccentric Edward Leedskalnin (1887–1951). It is located in unincorporated territory of Miami-Dade County, Florida, between the cities of Homestead and Leisure City. The structure comprises numerous megalithic stones, mostly limestone formed from coral, each weighing several tons.[2] It is currently a privately operated tourist attraction. Coral Castle is noted for legends surrounding its creation that claim it was built single-handedly by Leedskalnin using reverse magnetism or supernatural abilities to move and carve numerous stones weighing many tons.

Security Guard Hawks Security AKA
International Business Intelligencde

Howard Hawks of Perrine Florida was a retired AF Security Person who is seems was discharged for the good of the service; used to practice beating the lie detector in his office and stealing from employees and customers without discrimination. Mr. Hawks eventually sold his company to Bill Lou of International Business Intelligence from Mass and worked as manager. When asked why accounts were not paying their bills it turned out they did not exist and Mr. Hawks had defrauded IBI out of a fortune. When asked why he could not be prosecuted Mr. Hawks explained that they were in the security business and would be ruined by admitting to be victimized by such a fraud
