Dan Messmer a local computer expert employied by Winston Salem University examined the problem while he was using the computer facilities. He suggested a computer rowser software conflict in 2002 when library patrons use a program known as Yahoo Message. Dan suggest that the program such as Yahoo Messenger draws more RAM from the desktop and bandwidth form the LAN to bring other computers on the network to a near stop and give a more than passable impression to the user that their computer is not working properly. The problem probally also is caused by library patrons using online games which draw a lot of bandwith or ram.

We also have patrons and employees bringing in outside computer software and installing it on library systems. I have found 2 installation discs left in computers open to the public and have seen a library employee using what appears to be a boot disc. Easiest solution to this problem is to make sure neither the public nor employees use outside computer equipment. What kind of computer software did Donald French "Evil Dave" install on the library computers without the knowledge or consent of the management? If this organization ever gets professional security they might draft up a list of authorized software and make sure only what is authorized exist on all library computers.

As this report suggest the area in and around downtown Winston Salem,NC is rampant with bizarre and unusual human behavior which is not readily visible in nearby communities such as Roanoke, VA; Greensboro, NC; or Ashville,NC.
